Scientists have discovered a new dwarf planet in our solar system, far beyond the orbit of Neptune

Astronomers have announced the discovery of a new dwarf planet in our solar system, named 2017 OF201. Located far beyond Neptune, it orbits the sun every 25,000 years. Scientists have found evidence of a previously-undetected dwarf planet at the edge of the Solar System. The object, dubbed 2017 OF201, follows an extreme, oblong orbit, taking some 25,000 Earth years to circle the sun. The findings, which were confirmed by the International Astronomical Union's Minor Planet Center. but have not yet been peer reviewed, were published May 21 on the preprint server arXiv. 017 OF201 is a roughly spherical body about 435 miles (700 kilometers) in diameter, lurking beyond Neptune's orbit. A team of scientists spotted it while poring through archival data from the Blanco telescope in Chile and the Canada-France-Hawaii telescope based in Hawaii. The researchers tracked the object's motion across 19 sets of images spanning seven years. At its closest, the dwarf planet orbits at near...

Shrinking Nemo: Clownfish survive heatwaves by shrinking

Clownfish have been shown to shrink in order to survive heat stress and avoid social conflict, Newcastle University research reveals. The fish, recognisable from the starring role in the film 'Finding Nemo', were studied by academics from the universities of Newcastle, Leeds and Boston, USA. The work was conducted in collaboration with Mahonia Na Dari Conservation and Research Centre, in Kimbe Bay, Papua New Guinea. The team measured the length of 134 clownfish every month for five months, and monitored the water temperature every 4-6 days, during a marine heatwave which are becoming increasingly common as a result of climate change. Publishing in the journal  Science Advances , they reveal the remarkable ability of clownfish to shrink, i.e. they can get shorter, in response to heat stress. Shrinking increased individuals' chances of surviving the heat stress event by as much as 78%. In a heart-warming discovery, they also show that coordination is important for clownfish...

Aadhaar card has been made mandatory by the government for many government schemes. Along with this, Aadhaar card is used as an important identity document in India today. At the same time, it is very important for people to know an important update related to Aadhaar card and if this work related to Aadhaar card is done in the month of September itself, then people’s money can also be saved. Aadhar card Actually, on behalf of UIDAI, people are being given a chance to update the documents in Aadhaar card for free. Along with this, it is said by UIDAI that people can get Aadhaar upd...

Computer Basics-Basic Parts of a Computer

Introduction The basic parts of a desktop computer are the computer case, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and power cord. Each part plays an important role whenever you use a computer. The computer case is the metal and plastic box that contains the main components of the computer, including the motherboard, central processing unit (CPU), and power supply. The front of the case usually has an On/Off button and one or more optical drives. Computer cases come in different shapes and sizes. A desktop case lies flat on a desk, and the monitor usually sits on top of it. A tower case is tall and sits next to the monitor or on the floor. All-in-one computers come with the internal components built into the monitor, which eliminates the need for a separate case. Monitor The monitor works with a video card, located inside the computer case, to display images and text on the screen. Most monitors have control buttons that allow you to change your monitor's display settings, and some monitors also...

Eclipse

Image
An eclipse occurs when one heavenly body such as a moon or planet moves into the shadow of another heavenly body. Let’s learn about the two types of eclipses on Earth. What Is a Lunar Eclipse? The Moon moves in an orbit around Earth. At the same time, Earth orbits the Sun. Sometimes Earth moves between the Sun and the Moon. When this happens, Earth blocks the sunlight that normally is reflected by the Moon. (This sunlight is what causes the Moon to shine.) Instead of light hitting the Moon's surface, Earth's shadow falls on the Moon. This is an eclipse of the Moon, or a lunar eclipse. A lunar eclipse can occur only when the Moon is full. A lunar eclipse can be seen from Earth at night. There are two types of lunar eclipses: 1.Total lunar eclipse. 2.Partial lunar eclipse. A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon and the Sun are on exact opposite sides of Earth. Although the Moon is in Earth's shadow, some sunlight reaches the Moon. The sunlight passes through Earth...

Charles Darwin

His proposition that all species of life have descended from a common ancestor is now generally accepted and considered a fundamental concept in science.[ This brilliant 19th-century naturalist’s intense curiosity about the diversity of species led him to a new understanding of the world around us—and our place in it. Evidence collected during the five-year voyage of the HMS Beagle led to Darwin’s revolutionary theory that species adapt to different environments and change over time: all life, including humans, has evolved from a common ancestor through the process of natural selection. The new tools of genetics and molecular biology continue to build on Darwin’s radical ideas and refine our understanding of the mechanisms of evolution, which is essential to the study of life sciences. Happiest at home with his notebooks and his microscope, he shunned the public eye. Controversy made him ill. This brilliant observer of nature kept his most original and revolutionary idea under wraps...
