Google’s annual developer conference, Google I/O is less than a few days away. As always, the search giant is geared up to make some big announcements. Among other things, one key announcement that is expected is around an Android OS designed for Internet of Things (IoT). Dubbed Android Things 1.0, the concept made its first appearance in December 2016. Now, Google is ready for a full roll out of Android Things 1.0.

As the name suggests, Android Things 1.0 is an OS designed for making developers’ task easier while working on smart displays, kiosks and digital sign boards. Interestingly, device manufacturers won’t be allowed to change Android Things’ code related to software updates. If this is the case, then Google would have overcome the problem of device makers not updating software regularly. This could make IoT more viable as there will be regular updates available.
While it’s still unclear how and what Google intends to do with Android Things 1.0, a full roll-out will be a statement of intent from the search giant when it comes to IoT.

Apart from this, all eyes will be on the latest Android version that will be unveiled at Google IO 2018. The company is expected to talk about its features along with some other enhancements it has made in other apps. Android P is already available in developer beta version and is likely to roll out to end users later this year.

Google I/O 2018 is being held at Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, CA. The conference is scheduled to begin on May 8 and will conclude on May 10. In India, the event begins at 10.30PM on May 8.

The four-day event will be live streamed on the search giant’s own video platform – YouTube. It is free for all. One can see the keynote and all the other developer sessions that take place simultaneously in the rest of the days on YouTube through a dedicated Google Developers YouTube channel - www.youtube.com/user/GoogleDevelopers.
