After all, you want your vote to matter if you're trying to change things? So here's how you can register and check all your registration details and voter ID status conveniently online.

How to check your name in voter list

If you're previously registered to vote, you need to visit https://electoralsearch.in/ to see if your name is registered on the electoral rolls. If your name appears in the list, you are eligible to vote, otherwise you need to register.

How can I apply for voter ID online?

If you're registering online for the first time you'll need a scanned version of a passport-sized photo, age proof (like your birth certificate or PAN card), and address proof.
To apply, first visit the website of the National Voter's Service Portal here. Click on the option for "Apply online for registration of new voter/due to shifting from AC". This will open up the Form 6 application in a new tab (Form 6A if you're a non-resident voter). It appears in Hindi by default, so make sure you select your preferred language at the top as per your needs.

Obviously, you need to make sure you fulfill the requirements to be registered, i.e. you're an Indian citizen, and you need to have attained the age of 18 years by January 1 this year. You also need to be a resident of the polling area of the constituency where you want to be enrolled, and not otherwise disqualified from being an elector.

Once you hit submit, a post of it will appear on the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) notice board, inviting any objections for a week. After that, your name will be included in the electoral roll and you'll receive an SMS notification on your provided number.
