WhatsApp makes it easier to change text fonts, search for emojis on Android

WhatsApp has upgraded two of its features to make it handy for the Android users. It has been reported that one of the two features is relatively old and the other -- although fairly new -- has been seen earlier on WhatsApp Web.The first change -- relatively older one -- is the text selection toolbar action which enables users to change font while typing. Just to recall, WhatsApp last year introduced bold, italics and strikethrough fonts.

Soon after the introduction of fonts, Whatsapp added fixedsys monospace font as well. However, it didn't catch on as it was tricky to remember the various applicable fond triggers while typing.

In April 2017, the instant messaging app began using Android M's floating text toolbar to enable people to change different fonts while typing. For using this, you have to ensure that you have WhatsApp 2.17.148 version. When you want to change the font of text, you have to select the word or the phrase, and tap the three dots in toolbar. You will then get the option of choosing if you want bold, italics, strikethrough or monospace.

The second change that has been reported is an emoji search option -- which is something we have seen in WhatsApp Web for a few months now. The feature finds an emoji for users based on the words they type or character searches.

Both the features are live for beta version of WhatsApp, and are expected to roll out to everyone soon.
WhatsApp has been on an updating spree with a slew of features since the turn of this year. Three major changes that we have seen in WhatsApp are pinned chats, the new status, and two step authentication. The first one lets users pin important chats on top of the conversation list, and two step authentication is a security feature that stops other people from accessing one's WhatsApp without a six digit password. The latter, however, has to enabled.

The new status was a feature that got a lot of backlash from users. With this, Facebook got its very successful Instagram Stories like feature on WhatsApp. However, the company had to get back the old text status feature on popular demand. "We heard from our users that people missed the ability to set a persistent text-only update in their profile, so we've integrated this feature into the About section in profile settings," a WhatsApp spokesperson had said.
